CHESHIRE EAST COUNTY COUNCIL PERMAFYX L271 CASE STUDY

PERMAFYX L271

CHESHIRE EAST COUNTY COUNCIL

Cheshire East Council, Green Lane, Wardle, Nantwich, CW5 6DB

Applied on 1st October 2020

The Need:

Cheshire East Council highways depot is a developing facility with increasing traffic movements and an aging entrance roadway. The office block is in constant use and a section of the adjacent access road surrounding a drainage cover had subsided. A repair system that did not involve noise, vibration or dust pollution was needed to ensure staff disturbance was minimised. Part of the access roadway had a walkway segregation white line that also required reinstatement and refreshing.

Solution:

The Cheshire East team identified PermaFyx L271 as a natural solution to the situation. The system could be applied with minimal preparation, noise and dust, and without any material wastage or requirement for hot material being used within close proximity to the depot main entrance. The area was swept, dried using safe gas equipment, deep filled using a 2-6mm aggregate and then overcoated to a taped edge using the 2.5mm mix. Sections of the white line were subsequently reinstated without disturbing anyone on site and the repair was trafficable by the maintenance vehicles when they returned from their daily duties.

Summary:

The system offers a great alternative to the traditional reinstatement methods used within the highways sector. Whilst scalable, there will always be projects that are more efficiently delivered using bulk systems, but this project demonstrated just how quick and easy essential repairs can be made without the need to excavate.

System Used

PermaFyx L271 MMA Surface Repair with 2-6mm aggregate. Overcoated with a surface layer of base resin, which has 1.4-2.5mm aggregate in.

Line reinstated with UltraLine L210.
