LONG LASTING COLD PLASTIC PAINT

BEHIND THE SCENES:
Motorways have been using thermoplastic paint for decades and it has been long associated with hot works risks. Minimising the risk exposure of operatives working on the main arterial road network system in the UK has been something councils and contractors have been keen to adopt and use alternatives such as MMA cold plastics.

THE CHALLENGE:
The M27 is the busiest motorway on the south coast. It is 25 miles long, and runs East / West essentially serving the cities of Portsmouth and Southampton. With the large traffic volumes it experiences, the markings in high stress zones receive excessive wear resulting in poor results from traditional marking systems. To avoid costly road closures and maintain their vision, the contractor and council required something which is at least twice as durable, as well as being a solution that doesn’t involve too much disruption, extra training or expensive machinery.

Glass beads are scattered over the top of the wet paint to increase reflectivity, visibility and skid resistance of the line markings
