High-Traffic Railway Multi-Storey Car Park Surface Repair

The Challenge

Serfis Construction and Engineering Ltd were tasked with repairing a deteriorating surface in a drop and go multi-storey car park.

The challenge was finding a solution that could withstand high traffic, offer durability, and minimise disruption to the busy site.

Traditional methods would have required extensive downtime, generated significant waste, and posed equipment logistic challenges due to the car park’s height restrictions.

Surface Deterioration Before

The Cold-Applied Approach

Meon recommended a tailored kit-form solution using PermaFyx L273 for deeper repairs and PermaFyx L272 Thin Lay Permanent Surface Rejuvenator for surface rejuvenation.

These cold-lay surface repair solutions eliminated the need for mechanical milling or breaking, reducing vibrations and manual handling risks.

To remark the yellow junction box line markings Serfis utilised TrafficLine X410, a solvent based epoxy line marking paint which has great resistance to fuels and oils.

All the materials were easy to transport and apply, even in restricted spaces, ensuring minimal disruption to the car park’s operations.

“Nottingham City Council’s Parking Team are on a real push towards sustainability.

It’s quite tricky within parking services we are reliant on the cars and visitors to the city, but we’re really moving towards encouraging more sustainable vehicles, for example, the 80 charge points in Broadmarsh carpark which are powered by the 720 solar panels on its roof.

We really want sustainability at the heart of everything we do within parking, including this electric line marking machine.”

“MMA lasts for 5 years, whereas the standardized and less sustainable method of thermoplastic screed, lasts only 3 years.

The use of MMA cuts down on future installations and the renewal of line marking, therefore less resources are required throughout each scheme, resulting in an improvement in our long term environmental impact.”

“These solutions reduced the manual handling for the team, who would have had to wheelbarrow traditional hot materials up and down the carpark ramps”

The Result

Serfis successfully delivered a high-quality finish while significantly reducing downtime.

The area was quickly reopened, saving time and minimising inconvenience for users.

The solutions also reduced waste generation, eliminated the need for heavy machinery like rollers, and lowered HAVS exposure for the team.

By avoiding traditional barrowing methods, the kit-form solutions greatly enhanced worker safety and efficiency.
