PERMAFYX L271

Portsmouth Council, Northarbour Spur, PO6 3TU
Applied on 10th April 2020
The Need:
The footway corner adjacent to Unit 2 was regularly trafficked by heavy goods vehicles reversing into the neighbouring building supply facility. The bedrock in the area is soft clay and the asphalt surface had broken and subsequently sunk under the heavy load of the vehicles. With a scheme proposed to place a physical bollard to prevent the trucks mounting the area, a temporary repair was required to ensure the section of footway was safe, and to prevent the problem escalating.
Solution:
The situation was assessed and it was concluded that due to the high stress of HGV tyres, standard footway materials wouldn’t hold up for very long. Cementitious repair options were considered and then the PermaFyx L271 was recommended as a suitable option and should be placed on a trial basis. The deepest section had sunk by nearly 80mm, these areas needed to be built up using a 6-10mm bulk mix, screeded and feathered using a 1-3mm blend and then finally overcoated against a taped edge using 2.5mm mix.
Summary:
The finished result looked great. There was no excavation, no cutting, no compaction, no noise and the repair has been subject to scuffing HGV tyres daily. It has held up for 7+ months, with minimal signs of deformation. As a result, the repair scheme has been deferred, allowing stretched budgets to be invested into other safety critical schemes.
System Used
PermaFyx L271 MMA Surface Repair with 1-3mm and 6-10mm aggregate mixes. Overcoated with a surface layer of base resin, which has 1.4-2.5mm aggregate.
