TFL HYDROBLAST SCARRING REPAIR

TfL, Blackfairs Road, London, SE1 8BF

Applied on 19th February 2020

The Need:

During construction works, a temporary 30MPH roundel had been installed onto a new asphalt surface adjacent to the office building used by Transport for London highways engineers. The thermoplastic roundel was subsequently removed using hydroblasting technology, which resulted in damage to the surface texture. The TfL team identified the need to apply something across the exposed aggregates, and approached Meon for their recommendations.

Solution:

The Meon technical team concluded this was a scenario that could be addressed using the PermaFyx L272 system. The system was mixed with bauxite aggregate to help bulk it out and increase the SRV rating of the finished surface. Application was satisfactorily completed on a dried surface without any masking requirement, minimal traffic management and virtually zero carbon emissions.

Summary:

The high placement adhesion qualities of the PermaFyx L272 system ensured the damaged surface could be reinstated and re-opened to heavy traffic less than an hour after the application was completed. The client has subsequently recommended the technology for use on other projects across the London network.

System Used

PermaFyx L272 MMA Surface Repair with 0.9-1.4mm aggregate.
