"The things that have helped to form what we are today, given us courage to persevere and provided circumstances that are worthy of gratitude.

It's always a pleasure to reflect on the small wins in life - We believed the PermaFyx system would be a beneficial ironworks reinstatement concept for Scottish Water.

From the early engagement meetings through to this day, representatives of Scottish Water have been receptive to our approach, open to change and motivated to help us navigate the challenging journey of helping a utility undertaker adopt new technology.

In brief, Scottish Water supported an Appendix 9 approach to the SROR, offered locations in Edinburgh for the trials and personally witnessed another installation in Inverurie.

Confidence in the technology has resulted in further installations being requested for completion in Edinburgh by contractor Lightways. To ensure installation following a standard operating procedure, training is required.

Lightways invested in the Magma Approved Installer programme for their crews. The first crew completed the training on Friday 23rd May and became the first Magma Approved Installers in Scotland.

Multiple small steps in the right direction are leading to a ground-breaking change to the streetworks industry in Scotland.

Oscar Humphris, the Magma Trainer who led the training programme delivery, reported excellent feedback from the Lightways crew:

"The training was very well received, and they really appreciated the hands-on time I took to work with them and make them comfortable using the material," Oscar noted.

The crew performed well in both the boardroom assessment and practical demonstrations, with the demo box proving particularly effective in helping them understand the product.

Significantly, Lightways commented that unlike other companies who "just told them how to do things and left," Oscar's comprehensive approach - combining detailed instruction with ongoing on-site support - set a new standard for their training experience.

Closing Thoughts

We look forward to continuing this partnership with Scottish Water and expanding the Magma Approved Installer network across Scotland. Each successful installation brings us closer to transforming how streetworks are approached throughout the country.

The commitment and support shown by all parties involved demonstrates that positive change is not only possible but inevitable when industry leaders embrace innovation and work collaboratively towards a common goal.
