DUBLIN AIRPORT MMA MARKINGS
The Need:
Dublin Airport required a durable material for heavily trafficked airfield markings such as designators and roadway markings which rarely need to be removed or relocated. These markings required constant maintenance by Dublin Airports Asset Care team using standard airfield paint material resulting in costly on-going maintenance and disruption from closures required.
Solution:
Due to its hard-wearing characteristics and long-lasting track record, methyl-methacrylate (MMA) cold plastic line marking material (Basler Bascolin MP12 Rapid) was selected by Dublin Airport for these markings.
All outline markings, background colours, numbering and lettering were completed by Markaline, using Meon’s Basler Bascolin MP12 Rapid, which was applied to fully prepared asphalt and primed concrete surfaces.
Summary:
The application of Basler Bascolin MP12 Rapid has resulted in longer lasting markings for these markings which rarely need to be removed or relocated, resulting in reduced maintenance and associated costs. Life expectancy of MMA markings is predicted to be at least 5 times the life of standard paint markings at the same location. Also as the MP12 rapid maintains a quick cure time in low temperatures, Dublin Airport can utilise the off-peak season in winter for refreshing their markings without long downtimes.
System Used
Background colours were done in standard Basler Bascolin MP12, the white markings were done with Basler Bascolin MP12 Rapid.
