Brief look at what can block on a recirculation valve, how to check it and replace the wearing parts. The recirculation valve is used to recirculate paint from the tin to the filter. Sometimes issues occur with priming due to wearing parts in the recirculation valve, and the link between it and the main filter.

1. Preparation

You need the machine switched off and a large adjustable spanner. 

2. Undo The Retaining Nut

Undo the retaining nut on the recirculation valve using an adjustable spanner. Remove the plastic valve cap, and remove the spring. Keep them somewhere safe. 

3. Removing The Valve

When removing the valve ensure the plastic washer at the end of the valve comes out of the machine. The plastic washer is one of the main wearing parts of the valve. When the valve is pushed in the valve is locked. Conversely, when the valve is pushed out the paint can flow through it. 

4. Inspecting The Valve

Here you can see the holes the paint flows through, check these are clear. Also you can see the thread that the valve is attached with. 

5. Replacing The Valve

If you need to replace the washer or the whole valve ensure the valve is pulled back to avoid the plastic seal doesn’t fall off when putting it back into the machine. 

6. Tighten The Valve

Align with the thread ensuring the plastic seal doesn’t fall off and hand tighten, then use a spanner to complete tightening process. 

7. Replace Spring And Line Up The Splines Within The Cap

Carefully replace the spring, align the splines within the valve plastic cap to correct angle / location, the valve cap should point to the ground when in the ‘Prime’ position.

8. Replace Retaining Nut

Replace the retaining nut and then tighten with spanner.

Hold the valve in the locked position when replacing it to avoid the plastic seal coming loose in the machine.
